*Disclosure - this post contains and is about a product that was gifted to me. This blog post was not requested in return for the gifted product but other sharing requirements where asked for on an alternative platform and thus this is a brand I have had a working relationship with before.

She's back to blogging, I repeat, she's back to blogging. Well it's been a bit of time hasn't it! - Starting every post the same way recently - So I'm back to writing. If it's not writing it's editing and if not not editing, it's trying to learn how to keep up will all the changes to everything these days. I'm certainly someone who likes to take on the world I tell you! Nonetheless, hello again long time readers or if you're someone just popping by because you're on the hunt for some small business candle gifting ideas or a handmade candle treat for your own home... hello! A little different to the usual gist of things on here but today's post is more of a lifestyle-y one I guess? Candles are a creature comfort that I myself and I feel many of us enjoy and, although still at home, I find few things nicer than having a cosy candle of choice to accompany my room. I just feel like it's calming, sets the tone and makes your space a little sanctuary of cosiness and you-ness. Recently I was very kindly contacted by a lovely lady I know called Fiona, who runs a small handmade candle company called That Hygge Life. Her ethos is all about making sustainably and well-made bees wax candles that add a sense of cosy and calmness to your everyday life, like a little piece of Hygge to your home. Being two anxious peas in a pod, what's not to love!

Full disclosure and transparency, Fiona asked in return for gifting me one of her candles would I send her some feedback and share a post on Instagram. Those bits I have done but I loved the candle so much and adore her brand ethos so greatly, whilst also wanting to shout about her small business from the rooftops because she is just the most flipping lovely, wholesome, wonderful person, I wanted to dedicate a little blog post to my review of the candle too. Also part and parcel because I know some of you who read my blog are not only anxious peas in the pod like me and a sucker for all things relaxing but, likewise, you have a similar affinity for scented candles as I do. And what better than shopping small!

Supporting a small business and treating yourself? It does good all round!

Fiona very kindly sent me the Lavender & Orange candle, which is a 120ml size and housed in a brown glass bottle. It's the epitome of zero waste chic and feels very hygge like with its elegant yet simple design to me. I'm a big fan of most scents in candle-ware (if we can call it that? Can we call it that? Candle-ware?) but I'm a lover of sweet scents, much like my sweet tooth, and fresh, cosy scents. Lavender is a lovely one but not always one I gravitate toward. Likewise with orange, unless it is Christmas. Well beginning with scent, Fiona just has it bang on. When I first opened the candle my only thought was "phwoarrrr". The scent was divine. I was so impressed how well balanced the lavender and orange where. The lavender wasn't too stringent, yet enough to create a sense of relaxation, whilst the orange was gentle but enough to give the candle a fresh, garden-like greenhouse almost hint. The balance of scents was really complementary to its calming hygge ambience it gave.

Sometimes with popular store-bought candles I've found my chest to feel a little tight when I burn them. With this and other natural candles I don't seem to have that experience and I think that says a lot about the ingredients used in them.

Quote card inside brown card/ paper sustainable box, reading you're stronger than you think, braver than you know and more capable than the limits you and others have put around you.Personal note card from package, handwritten by Fiona, reading, To Ellie. Thanks so much for reviewing a candle for me - it means so much. I hope you enjoy your candle + that it helps to bring you lots of moments of hygge, joy + cosiness! You're amazing! Fi. Heart, heart.

The candle wax it's self is bee wax so something to note if you're vegan as I know some vegans are happy to use bee wax products and some prefer not to. I normally choose the latter but because I know the conscious process that goes behind Fiona's product sourcing and her local bee wax collection I feel comfortable purchasing from her. I would so love if Fiona decided to add soy wax candles to her line in the future though too - I think I forgot to mention this to her.

The candle it's self was a swift burner, mine burnt in a week, however I must reiterate, I was excited to start burning the candle before Fiona had even sent it and I really let myself indulge in it while testing it out to get the best feel for it and review. I often had it on while at my desk for quite some hours but simply because IT WAS SO FLIPPING GORGEOUS! The pure essential oils in the Hygge Life candle had a really luxurious feel to their scent and the lavender and orange scents felt very natural and not like that synthetic-y kind of scent you can sometimes find with store bought candles. I think because the essential oils and wax are of such good quality they burn very efficiently so I'd recommend, and I think what I will do next time, reserving the Hygge Life candles for special times and moments you want to addd a little hint of splendour and cosiness to, like when guests are around or you going all in, fluffy-socks pamper evening.

On the subject of affordability, the Hygge Life candles price tag isn't too wild in my opinion. Now, I've never had a Jo Malone or Diptyque candle personally but in my eyes, That Hygge Life candles for me in their quality are on the same tier as a Jo Malone or Diptyque candle. They are luxurious but nowhere near as expensive as I'd imagine some of those luxury brands to be and are £14 for 120ml, with £3.35 postage and packaging. For a special treat or thoughtful gift I really think they are priced just right and likewise supporting a small business in the process.

The delivery was the speediest I think I've ever had a parcel delivered in my life! I think Fiona sent it one day and it was here the next! So 10/10 on speedy delivery! Not to mention was it speedy but my goodness, not only are the Hygge Life candles wonderfully plastic free and recyclable themselves, the packing is completely zero waste but also the most aesthetically beautiful zero waste packaging I've ever seen. Even forgetting the marvellous zero waste aspect to it, it was just gorgeous! Perfect straight for gifting from order. All packing was paper/ cardboard and the candle came supported in cardboard crinkle cuttings, with a tight layered cardboard crinkle tube to protect it from impact. The candle arrived in immaculate condition. Alongside, I received a heart warming quote card and dried flower, which actually pairs quite beautifully with the jar as a little centre piece post-candle-burning (completely used up and jar emptied out). I couldn't be more smitten with the packaging and if you're looking for a small candle company to purchase a gift from I think the presentation of the Hygge Life candles will just make the loveliest arrival for your gift-ee of receipt.

Me demonstrating the cream cotton ribbon that came holding the protective card candle wrap together as a simple bracelet tied in a single not around wrist.
I'm repurposing the cotton tie as a little hair bow or, as demonstrated, could make a lovely little minimal style bracelet.

So that is on the whole all of my thoughts on my week thoroughly enjoying and reviewing the That Hygge Life Lavender & Orange candle. To me, it's a luxury brand level beauty that I'm reserving for luxury occasions and treats but equally not breaking the bank and doing wonders with my pennies by supporting a small business! Following my feedback to Fiona she also gave me some top secret scoop on some future developments for her line-up and all I can say is, if you think this small business candle company sounds right up your street just wait till you see what's to come!
