Hello there and hello September! A little bit more back in the swing of things I've got my August Favourites for you today (she says late-mid September), from everything I've been loving beauty-wise this end of Summer to some style pieces I've been loving so much I definitely planning on incorporating them into my Autumn wardrobe one way or another. For this monthly favourites I had an inkling of a spark of wanting to do something a bit different as well and thus I decided... I wanted to film it! So for my second ever video on my main channel, over at Ellie Bows & Sparkles if you didn't know already, I've put together my August Favourites to mark my very first monthly favourites on my channel, as linked below...
In addition to that, I've accompanied my main channel video with this little blog post below, detailing some additional notes on each of my monthly favourites I've talked about. So take your pick, be it video or blog post, here's everything I discovered in August that's been knocking my socks off!

Lush Refillable Lipstick Case + Refill - Shade Liverpool
First up is a lipstick that's been on my wish list for a LONG time. When Lush brought out their refillable lipsticks a few years ago I had my eyes set on getting one and after paying a visit to swatch them all (of course) I fell head over heels for the shade Liverpool, for both name and colour! In terms of lippies I think it's a lovely formula, not too delicate yet enough balls to put a good dash of colour on your lips. I just love that there's such an accessible waste-conscious option on the high street beauty market and, on top of that, how Lush have not scrimped on design. It is the most vintage lipstick I've ever come across and if you know me you'll know my heart is a sucker for anything a little bit vintage!
Barry M That's How I Roll Mascara
Next is a new mascara I purchased after venturing from my long standing holy grail, the Zao Aloe Vera Mascara. For the first time in my 10 teenage to grown up years I finally decided to give the world of waterproof mascaras a try after finding myself very much in need of something that wouldn't smudge through the day. I've been giving the Barry M That's How I Roll mascara a whirl this August and, to put it in short, it has just been beautiful! In terms of effect it just gives the most lovely lift and curl and it really does make me a happy bunny when I'm wearing it. Just enough for everyday to say "hello I am here, I am Ellie's eyelashes and we do exist". Additionally though, layered up a little more it's also excellent in giving more full voluminous lashes that pop for a heavier makeup look yet still gives a gorgeous curl and lift. I'm still working on my smudgy under eyes but I really have found an improvement with the Barry M That's How I Roll Mascara and it is definitely a step up from the, although beautiful, non-waterproof Zao Aloe Vera Mascara.
Zero Waste Path Deodorant -
What would life be without a deodorant hey.. well a whole lot smellier for that matter! As an item I use daily it's no surprise a deodorant has made it's way into a blog post again but for good reason. Like it's fellow Ku.tis deodorant I also purchased from Plastic Freedom, the Zero Waste Path Deodorant has equally wowed me! The Grapefruit and Lemongrass scent is just lovely and this mighty tin deodorant has just completely wowed me, from first try and how well it masks odour to even surprising me with how excellent a formula it boasts! It doesn't leave a balmy mess or feel to my under arms, nor noticeable tainting to my clothes, or crumbling that some balmy deodorants I've tried in the past can create. It really is up there with the Ku.tis deodorant for me as one of the best performing deodorants I've come across.
Summer Gingham Party Dress Outfit
Following the theme of the Summer, next up I give you a dress! I think we can all agree it has been the year of the dress and the year of gingham and I have been equally loving both. Early this August I had a friend's birthday and really wanted to do something with this Gingham beauty from Hollister for my party outfit of choice, so I paired it with a white pussy bow shirt and that my friends, is when I fell in love... with the outfit of course! The two just paired together beautifully and tied (if you will) two very popular trends of the moment into a co-ord and I just felt giddy as good wearing it. So, if you thought you'd be sadly packing away your gingham this Autumn fear not! Paired with a shirt or statement collar, I'm saying gingham is here to stay.
Hollister Blue Ditsy Floral Print Dress
Another wonder I got from Hollister was this Blue Ditsy Floral Print Dress and I have loved every moment wearing this in August! It's a gorgeous fit, with something a little bit vintage about it and something a little bit cottagecore (- I never thought I'd see the day I no longer disliked that term). It's like the perfect in between of the floral dresses everyone and their dog has been loving and wearing this year and something a little bit of me with it's nod to the 1940s.
I'm really looking forward to styling up some florals in my outfits for Autumn!
New Look Orange Floral Print Jumpsuit
On that note, I found myself going back to this Orange Floral Print Jumpsuit from New Look again this August, looking towards Autumn a little more. I've been pairing it with tees and vans on the warmer days but I'm really excited to start layering it up for Autumn and I think it will be the perfect Summer to Autumn transitional piece in my wardrobe. As mentioned in the video, here's that Instagram picture of me wearing the jumpsuit.
Planoly
When not playing with makeup or planning outfits... we're Instagramming it of course! Over August I feel as though I've had a right kick up the bottom to sort my Instagram out and make it more of a space I love and, with that, I found myself re-visiting an old app called Planoly. Now I used Planoly for the first time a few years ago but I never quite got stuck into it. It's an Instagram planning and scheduling app but even now I only use it to try and bring a little cohesion to my grid and still haven't delved into all the things it offers. For me though it's been great in helping me try to pull together a bit more of a balance to my Instagram grid and in curating a place for pictures I take, that make an aesthetically pleasing little grid. I have a long way to go I know but Planoly has really been helping me fall back in love with Instagram again and the sole purpose of it. I really don't ever want to spend too much time and thought planning, scheduling and editing posts for Instagram and find much more pleasure in it as a photo and memory sharing app and, compared to other apps I've tried in the past, Planoly just makes that nice happy medium. You can delve in and used the tools that you need whilst keeping it as simple and in the moment as you want or as thoroughly and rigidly scheduled for as professional and brand-conscious an Instagram grid as you like.
