*Disclosure: This post is tagged as ad as I was very kindly invited to the event by The Body Shop Liverpool One team (they're a flipping lovely bunch!). They said they chose who they invited because they knew we would share and shout about the work that The Body Shop are doing, plus we were also gifted with some free products and beauty services. As ever, and if you've read my Everlasting Love for Blogging blog post, I will only ever share my true, honest opinions and feelings about products or anything discussed on my blog as the whole purpose of my blog and why I blog is because I always want to share my real experiences and opinions in the hopes of helping others and to hopefully make a difference for you the reader! Spiel over but feel free to hop over to my disclosure policy for more.

Well hello there blank page, once again I return! Life has been a little busy to say somewhat at the mo but a mixture of incredible things... cue Blogosphere Beauty Creator Show I went to in London last Friday and a multitude of sunny days and trips around the UK seeing friends (Luci, Hanna, I'm looking at you girls). It's been phenomenal but paired with starting up my YouTube channel this year and switching over to and upgrading my tech it's been ALL GO to say the least! I am not by any means complaining though - life has been amazing! Nonetheless, life update aside (unless you'd really like a life update then I can dedicate a whole post to that if you really fancy it - I'm not sure if anyone would be wanting that though haha), here's one of those recent pinch me moments and amazing things I've been up to recently and that was, being invited to The Body Shop Anita Roddick Activism Workshop event at The Body Shop Liverpool One! I was very honoured to be one of the hand-picked selected invited and very, very grateful, and, as when any blogging event calls,... most, most excited! So today and long time overdue (but not too long overdue all things considered compared to some of my other posts historically!) I of course wanted to share it all in a blog post.

So come join me at The Body Shop Event!

As you probably well know, if you've heard anything about The Body Shop before, they're all about activism and doing good and promoting good things with their business. Following the newly sustainable refurbishment of The Body Shop Liverpool One store, the shop had one final makeover this May and that was the installation of their sustainable store front. So to celebrate, in true Ryan-style (store manager and 'expert' events planner), Ryan organised a celebratory event, not just to give the shiny new window of sustainability its moment of shining glory but to celebrate and share all the incredible sustainable and community-good plans The Body Shop (storewide and business-wide) is commencing. As Anita Roddick began The Body Shop back in 1976 in the eye of activism, the event was dedicated to her, in celebration of and sharing all the positive actions and projects The Body Shop are now moving forward with at the dawn of their complete sustainable makeover.

I would just like to add here, did anyone else know The Body Shop was founded by Anita Roddick in Brighton? A girl after my own heart! <3

So to kick off the event, well first things first we had time for a good mooch around, of which was when I met Meg (once again! We're making a habit of this catching up at blogging events now!) and we thoroughly tempted each other to purchase everything around the shop! Naughty purchases were made - to be detailed further below if you want the scoop on what I treated myself too!... After a good old mooch around, the team started the event by sharing a little presentation on why they'd gathered us all today for the Anita Roddick Workshop and that being...

So what's The Body Shop all about in 2022 and what sustainable beauty waves (and more) are The Body Shop making here onwards?

With dawn of The Body Shop's new sustainable revamp, the team explained that it's all about working towards their main goal of being a business that makes good change, be it sustainable and societal. A company for activism. Anita started The Body Shop as the first global brand to not only be cruelty free but fight against animal testing - the activism was born from the very beginning of The Body Shop! So moving forward in this sustainable mission, The Body Shop want to not only continue Anita Roddick's incredible activism and work but expand on it, just as I think she would have so very wished for! The team detailed how they as a store and business-wide The Body Shop want to make meaningful business relationships - relationships that will make change and do good. Cue Ryan's cute little spiel why he chose to invite all of us! :') Business-wide, a massive meaningful business relationship The Body Shop have been focused on for some time now is their community fair-trade connections - some of which I discussed more about it my very first Body Shop event post. Fast forward to 2022 and one of The Body Shop's current biggest missions is their Plastics for Change, which is about using plastics sustainably in the business - from the speckled grains you can see in the beauty stands in store, where they've been made out of recycled plastics, to the sustainable makeup cycle you can contribute to by bringing in your awkward to recycle beauty empties to any the store's recycling drop off stops!

Speckled recycled plastic stand, holding up product information card.
Recycled plastic product display, showing speckles of the recycled plastics that have been repurposed to make it.

Side shot of store team member delivering speech, wearing her forest green Body Shop apron and holding notes.  One of the workshop presentation slides, reading, Businesses that live to the highest social and environmental standards; CFT ingredients; aloe (employs indigenous women farmers), shea (TWA, safe water supplies, schools, etc); campaigning, animal cruelty, plastics for change, votes at 16.Workshop slide of one of the refill bottles and note reading, Since the 1st of January 2022 we have converted 2036 plastic bottles into our aluminium refillable bottles.

In addition to this current huge mission of The Body Shop's, which I'm sure you're very aware of in all their current activities, the team also shared with us the whole host of other projects The Body Shop is also working on.

Like last year's Give With Joy campaign for instance, whereby The Body Shop Liverpool One and all stores teamed up with The Honey Pot Charity to support young carers. This year The Body Shop have made their charity partnership with The Red Cross.

Not only are The Body Shop working towards good oversees, the massive at-home campaign The Body Shop are also fore fronting this year is the Votes at 16 campaign, whereby The Body Shop are working in partnership with shoppers and change makers across the country to campaign for a lowering in the legal voting age. How flipping brilliant! At 16 we learn to drive, can legally engage in activities that hold great adult responsibility, we're expected to pick a career and know exactly what we want to do for a large portion of the foreseeable future of our working lives, yet we can't have a say in who runs our country and who leads the way in the way in which we live our lives in the place that we live. That's a lot of responsibility and yet a whole little lot of say! I'm so impressed by The Body Shop's current activism campaign and I think they set a shining example to their consumer audience.

So if you want to treat yourself and do good with your pennies, The Body Shop seems like a good place to start to me!

Loud speaker sat on the shelf of the activism wall.  Pile of inspirational activism books at the community and activism wall, including Greta Thunberg, I am Malala and Marcus Rashford.

Storewide, The Body Shop Liverpool One team don't just stop there in just doing their wonderful jobs. The Liverpool One team showed us how they as a store also get involved in supporting the local community whereby the company help by facilitating community events they can make a difference with. For example, the team have been on various litter picks together, keeping our scenic community litter free and plastic free too!

I never knew where I spent my pennies could honestly make such a different and The Body Shop and The Body Shop Liverpool One store specifically really are a true embodiment of just that.

After the positive presentation, the team shared with us their team pledges they've made to work towards doing good. The team's pledge included,

  • Using Vinted for shopping more
  • Focusing on their second hand vintage business
  • Using more refill products (+ remembering to bring them back to refill, and
  • Kitting out the store with completely refillable products, from bathroom to behind the counter

So rounding off from the talk at the Anita Roddick Activism Event, the team encouraged us all to make our own sustainable pledges and put them on the shop community activism wall. I completely forgot to make mine so I'm going to put mine here...

My pledge is to try Vinted. My friend often sells things on Vinted and I've never given it a go before so I pledge to try that.

If you think all that sounds good here's the show stopper that team ended the presentation on... The Body Shop Liverpool One is now a fully sustainable store! Wowwee. Who knew beauty could make such a difference. I think that's exactly the way Anita Roddick would have wanted it too.

So, for the beauty lovers alike this is probably the bit you've been waiting for, THE BEAUTY STUFF! So as noted, Meg tempted me into buying a whole load of stuff :D jokes, we were very sensible O.O haha. We tempted ourselves and each other to be fair but we all need a little treat from time to time! So first things first, The Body Shop Liverpool One team VERY kindly treated us to a free refill of choice (refill container and product!) and a mini Himalayan Charcoal Face Mask. My acne prone skin is very much looking forward to trying this and I even have another mini of it stashed away too so it's getting a right pamper! Refill-wise, I wanted to try something completely different to what I've tried before so I went for the Almond Milk Shower Cream. I know, I know, your saying "Ellie, the Almond Milk Shower Cream... it has honey in, your vegan"...

The Almond Milk range is going completely vegan!

If you're an Almond Milk fan but vegan keep your eye out for the newly packaged Almond Milk products because they should say vegan on them. As you can see, my refill sticker says Almond Milk & Honey but that's just the old stickers. Waste not want not! They will obviously be using up the old stickers as opposed to simply chucking them out! Haha!

My Body Shop Event purchases, including Almond Milk Shower Cream, Shea Conditioner, Hemp Shower Oil, Powder Foundation, mini Himalayan Charcoal Face Mask, mini Chamomile Cleansing Balm and Mango Hand Cream.

We also got treated to a very nice complementary 15%, which aided the spendy purchasing. So self-purchase-wise, firstly I got two of the girls in work a little gift each to say thank you for swapping shifts with me so I could go to the event. These were the mini Chamomile Cleansing Balm and mini Mango hand cream. Filling up my stocks, I got myself another refill of the Shea Conditioner, to pair with my Shea Shampoo I got the week prior on one of the refill offers.

Me filling up my Almond Shower Cream at the refill station.

P.S - Body Shop Love You Body Club members, I got an email recently saying you'll get double points on all refills for the rest of the year! Just a little heads up for all you beauty and Body Shop lovers out there.

I almost forgot to add, a little star secret the team let us in on... Think stickers aren't sustainable? Well think again! All the refill stickers are biodegradable, which means if disposed off they will just dissolve away. Fear not though, they are designed so that they don't come off your beautifully personally decorated refills in the shower! Biodegradable and waterproof - What can The Body Shop not do!?

Following on from this, I then got very treaty treaty. So during the event, of course Ryan made sure there were a plethora of little activities to enjoy, one of which being a hand and arm massage. Can I just say now, that hand and arm massage was absolute dream! <3 The lovely lady who did my hand massage (I am so sorry I forgot their name and didn't write it down, I'm awful! :'0 ) made it an absolute treat. So we got to pick, from the glorious product testing and body butter wheel one stop station, a scrub scent, moisturiser scent and fragrance mist scent. I'm pretty sure I paired the Coconut Body Scrub with the Mango Body Butter and then the brand new limited edition Refreshing Passionfruit Body Mist.

IT WAS A SUMMER DREAM!

A selection of scrubs, washes and fragrances at the hand and arm massage station.
Close up, cosy, warm-lit shot of my hand getting it's massage.

To top it off though, our lovely masseuse gave us the Hemp Shower Oil to cleanse our hands with, as it was one of her personal faves, and my goodness was it MAGIC! Never in a million years would I have given a shower oil a second thought because I'd either think "no time to indulge in an extra product in the shower" or, in the case of an oil-based wash, "there's no chance that will lather". Well knock my socks of and call me Bob. It lathered beautifully - it had the most unique rich oily formula but then lathered into a light soap - and gave the most gorgeous nourishment to my skin. So of course the magic of the Hemp Shower Oil was realised and I loved it so much I ended up purchasing one.

I've reserved this one for my Sunday evening pamper sessions.

Lastly, we were lucky enough to go for a skin consultation or makeup consultation and having had the former at prior Body Shop events, I went for the makeup consultation. One of the products that had really caught my eye on the peruse around at the start of the event was their new ?Powder Foundation?. Since hearing all the rave about the new ELF powder foundation I was intrigued to see what The Body Shop offering was like... and I was not let down! Bethany tried it on me and it just felt really lovely and light, I'd probably say with a buildable medium coverage, that effortlessly just evened out my skin tone. As I was running out of my every day foundation I was just looking for something that was easy to throw on of a morning. I went for the shade ??? and for reference, I'm almost as pale as paper, probably with yellow to neutral undertones. I'm still yet to try this at home as I'm waiting very patiently to make sure I get some pictures of it before I dive into it, just incase I end up wanting to do a little review on here or my YouTube channel!

In motion shot of Bethany applied makeup to one of the event guests.
Scattered array of skincare products at the makeup counter, including the Aloe Calming Toner and Vitamin C Revitalising Serum.  A close-up shot of the skin type testing papers, specialised in nose, forehead and cheek strips to determine skin type.

So that was all my treaty purchases of the day and very kind gifts from the Liverpool One team.

...

As ever, it was a wonderful night and I am incredibly fortune and very thankful to have been invited! The Body Shop have long been a beauty favourite of mine and they just seem to get better and better. Knowing I'm doing good with my pennies is flipping brilliant and who knew it could be as easy as treating yourself! The Body Shop Liverpool One team are just a credit to the company and they do an absolutely wonderful job. I'm very lucky to have them on my doorstep! :)

Thank you so much The Body Shop Liverpool One team for inviting me!

So, - there's been a lot of so's in this post, I am sorry - my next post will be up very soon as I feel like I've finally got my blogging mojo back now and I'm on the bandwagon so I'll be back in written form shortly, with either something beauty related or, if not, other exciting life tales. If however you do happen to be looking for a little more from me in the meanwhile, here's my latest vlogs of recent travels... and main channel videos are more to come!

Until my next post!
