8 Easy Halloween Outfit Ideas

Ellie wearing three Halloween outfit ideas, from a dead bride, to fairy and a witch.
Good morning, good evening or good afternoon and hello seven days till Halloween! I swear we're living with time on 3x fast forward this year. With seven days until the big day, it's officially about time to get excited for Halloween and whether you've had a spark of spooky loving in your veins since the end of September or are just now realising "oh it's Halloween this weekend!" costumes are on many a mind! Whether it just be for fun or a party to attend, I love that part of Halloween that's picking a costume and although I'd gladly class myself as the person who get's itching for Halloween the moment September is ending it doesn't any less mean my outfit choices can be a little last minute with life going on! So for the fellow last minute-ers and those finding themselves spellbound by the speed of time Halloween is approaching us, I thought I'd put together a really quick and easy Halloween costume guide of some last minute Halloween outfit ideas for the big day... or should I say night?

If you're looking for a quick and easy Halloween outfit idea that you may more than likely be able to pluck from your very own wardrobe, with a small addition from your a child's dress up box or impromptu trip to your local Halloween isle, here are eight ideas I give you!...

Just to disclaim, I am not claiming these ideas as my own. The outfits well that's me and what my wardrobe has to offer but of course the actual ideas are things that have been done before and are not my own creation.

Ellie wearing a black, midi, star sequined mesh dress, with small black and silver cobwebbed witches hat.
The Witch
In the essence of keeping it simple, the witch! Many a year have I dressed up as a little witch, from greenly face painted as a child, to spooky makeup looks I've tried in years gone by... my Mystical Witch Halloween Make Up Tutorial for a frightfully good throwback. In my eyes, a witch's costume can be one of the easiest Halloween outfits to do by picking out any cute black dress of choice and adding a wee witches hat, be it your old childhood one or cute little treat for that fancier Halloween party. She says and mine is just a little one I got many moons ago from Claire's but is still very cute! Pair down with boots for trick o' treating duties or throw on some heels and have a play with your makeup for that up party.

Ellie wearing a large grey tulle skirt, with black leotard and hair up in a bun, with pink bow.
The [dead] Ballerina
Now don't be deceived, I may not look so dead here but the answer to that is makeup! Another simple variation, and one that I could piece quite easily together from my dancing heart, your one time a year dead ballerina. For this I pulled out my old ballet leotard however you could use any popular leotard top that seems to be common in everyone's collection these days. Using ordinary bits and bobs, I picked a nice tulle skirt to resemble a bit of a tutu and threw my hair up in a classic ballerina bun, something that requires no costume shopping. Pair with a little bow as I did here and go absolutely all out on the from-the-grave makeup! I think a contact lens (or two) would pair absolutely brilliantly with this Halloween outfit.

Ellie looking down, wearing a long white dress out of a bed sheet, with net curtain veil and flower crown.
Bride of the Dead
Speaking of return from the grave, the bride of the dead. Now this is one I actually went as a few years ago. Albeit I had a better net curtain back then and your classic easy to do skull faced makeup, this one was a hit. I distantly remember my mum driving us to a Halloween party, stopping at a set of traffic lights and a group of teenage girls turning to look at me in the car and shrieking, with a mouthed "omg look".  See my Hallotober Tag for a better picture of that and some other treats (old pictures) in that post too! For the dress, I threw on a elasticated strapless dress, or in this case it was a midi skirt with an elasticated waist, and tucked a double white bed sheet around and under the elasticated band. It doesn't matter if you haven't got a strapless maxi dress to hand, any elasticated banded item of clothing that'll go over your boobs will work! Throw an old net curtain over your head, with the majority of it sitting over the front of you, and secure in place with a headband of choice. To me the flowers just add a little more of a decaying look and they pair quickly spookily with the net curtain veil when you throw it back over your head.

Ellie wearing a black velvet leotard and skater skirt, with black cat ears, in a little cat pose.
The Cat
Cat ears anyone? Another classic and super simple last minute Halloween costume you can throw together, the classic cat costume. For this I kept it snug and threw on a pair of black tights and simply put together a cute little all black outfit. Seriously, anything your feel comfortable in will do! Feel free to go feline with your makeup and then either throw on a pair of cat ears or even get crafty if your in a pinch and cut out some cardboard ones and stick to a headband. Most places often do them though I find and cheaply and you can always save and reuse them for years to come!

Ellie looking mischievously upward wear her white and gold handmade wand is pointed, wearing a rose gold sequined mini dress.
The Fairy
Ahh, now I think this is my favoruite look of all the Halloween outfit ideas here and I'd happily plan to wear this for Halloween whether it was one month down the line or a few hours before a party. Again, a super simple, easy and last minute Halloween outfit idea, using what you've already got in your wardrobe and a little bit of easy crafting. Pick your cutest little dress of choice, or long dress if you're feeling woodland fairy vibes or any fairy you wish to be for that matter; play down or play up with whatever makeup you fancy; find some card, a stick, a pencil and scissors and cut out a wee star and stick it to the end of your stick. And voilà! You're got your self a fairy and a very cute little wand. I like the idea that with this one you can really go to town on your makeup with it, however you like, keeping it simple for a quick throw together outfit as I did here or go glitter or go home.

The Ice Queen
Another enchanting pick. Now, I said these were quick and easy Halloween outfit ideas... I know this is not the best but in the true spirit of quick and easy Halloween costumes I've thrown this Ice Queen together with whatever I've got. With a tiara to hand and the weather getting colder I put two and two together and came up with Ice Queen. So for this costume I threw together a long white dress, with a white top thrown over for warmth (really I wanted something a little bit draped to create a kind of icicle effect), a tiara for that touch of regal, an icy cape (a net curtain of course) and an icy blue ribbon (I had no clue where to put this and by the end of taking all these pictures I'd clearly had enough and just shoved it on my wrist, haha). You really could wear whatever you want for this outfit. I think so long as you go for a white dress of some kind and something a little bit regal like a tiara the world's your lobster! Or should I say ice palace? Again, this is one you could really go to town with on your makeup and I think if you imagine this with a fully themed makeup look it would absolutely smashing!

The Pumpkin Princess

Again, don't laugh, I know this is not quite what I imagined when I though pumpkin princess but I definitely did think that dress was a lot more orange than coral. So, pair something Halloween-y with something classic and easy to do and I thought what cuter than a pumpkin princess! For this one pull out anything and everything mustard and orange coloured in your wardrobe. Find an orange or mustard dress and throw together with matching colours to turn your self into a little pumpkin. Add a tiara and throw a pumpkin in if you can. Go green with your eye makeup or hair accessories, hell why not even your hair for the night, and call it pumpkin princess. I think the green touches to your makeup or hair paired with a orange, mustard mini dress ensemble would make the perfect nod to a pumpkin princess (or maybe a Oompa Looma though, I didn't think of that one oops, be careful!). Here my dress isn't very orange or mustard coloured and I think a little orange skater dress or mustard coloured skirt would just bring a bit more pumpkin to the outfit. Again I think this could be a really good versatile option if you might be outside this Halloween as, like I did here, you can pair it with cosy jumpers and extra layers of pumpkin coloured goodness - or a green bobble hat, that would be cute. Again, go to town on your makeup and make it all things pumpkin and mystical princess and I think you could really play up this look (and with a much better dress than mine!).

Ellie, with hands clasped looking straight at the camera, wearing a black dress with white collar and cuffs, with hair in plaits.
Wednesday Adams
And last but not least, not my idea but one we can all pull out of the wardrobe, Wednesday Adams. I think this hands down has to be one of the quickest and easiest Halloween costumes going and one I've definitely worn before. Take any appropriately straight cut black dress, or even black tee and trousers if you want to mix it up a little, and, if not already in place like mine, pair with a white collar and some plaits. I think this is a nice casual Halloween outfit pick that doesn't require a lot of preparation and stress and could even pair perfectly for those more casual events. I wore this on Halloween in college one year just to sprinkle a bit of Halloween into my day and although it felt nicely seasonal it didn't look out of place being just an ordinary dress.

And there you have it. Eight last minute, easy Halloween outfit ideas I came up with off the top of my head, that you could absolutely go to town with your makeup or throw together last minute if you're still searching for a costume idea. With one week to go I would love to know your outfits plans for the night in the comments below. Are you going out this Halloween or staying in? I'm party pending and I'm very much looking forward to it! I won't be wearing any of these outfit ideas this year although I am a little bit in love with that fairy one and would definitely wear that if all else fails. What I've got planned for this year I might post on my Instagram so if you'd like to see how it pans out be sure to follow me on there! Ooo and let me know your favourite outfit from the post too and likewise, if you do wear any please tag me or send me a pic because I'd love to see these brought to life for the big day!

Happy Halloween week all and if you'd love nothing more than more Halloween content to enjoy be sure to return for more Halloween treats to come on the blog this week!

    1. Oh that’s such a lovely idea! I like the whimsical and fun of Halloween but I’m definitely not one to go messing with bad things and don’t think we should be disrespectful. I like the fun cute version of it! Haha. 😊

Isn’t it such an easy one! I’m currently full of cold and don’t have any Halloween day plans so I might keep it simple this Sunday and go Wednesday Adams attire for the day! Perfectly Autumn appropriate too, haha.

    1. Awww, thank you Lea-Mai! I swear I had one of those pink basic leotard tops but I just could not find it for the life of me for this post. Like I was saying to Han, I don’t think the dark side of Halloween is anything to be messed with but I like the cute fun of it. Think of Dr Ranj on Strictly Come Dancing as the Trolls, haha, that's my vibe. :'D

    1. Thank you very kindly Amie! I must say, I got a bit tired picturing them by the end, which I think you can tell in some of them, haha, and day light was not on my side. I'd love to do some of them on their own and do the makeup to go with them and full look on the blog maybe in the future. I pictured this maybe about a week before I got sick so I think my body had, had enough, haha.

  9. Aww, thank you so kindly Amy, that's so kind of you! I really enjoyed making this post. The makeup to pair with the looks would definitely top off any of these and finish them off. You could really go to town with them.

I think a couple of them you could tell I had gradually lost the enthusiasm and will to live though as I remember falling really sick at the time I was finishing this post, haha. Here's to this year's Halloween content, I'm hoping to give it my all and do better!
