Sunset Makeup Look Tutorial

Good day lovelies! Seen as the summer showers are well under way ;) I thought it would be the perfect time to have a little ponder at creating a summery makeup look and decided to attempt a sunset eye makeup look. Not the most perfect in the world I know but the shimmery shades from the Stila Eyes are the Window to the spirit palette make the most divinely complimentary summer eye looks that dazze endlessly in real life. Please read along if you'd like a little step by step guide as to how I achieved this summery look :)

Eyes

• As always, I began with the eyes because any fall out disasters can be easily concealed and wiped away. I primed my eye lids with the NYX Proof it Eye Primer and gently patted this in until blended and tacky.
• On top of this I again gently patted a little of the Rimmel Lasting Finish Concealer in Porcelain on my eye lids, followed by a swift baking of translucent lose powder (any will do), with my Kiko 200 fluffy brush.
• Taking that Kiko 200 fluffy brush and my Stila Eyes are the Window to the Spirit palette, I then lightly blended the light, cool brown transition shade Puppy in a halo shape around my crease and lid area.
• Tip for those with hooded eyes! Blend the shadows as high as you can above your natural crease like me to avoid the shades becoming lost in the fold of your eye lid.
• Following on from the transition shade, I then dabbled my Zoeva 228 Luxe Crease brush into the orange-y, red shade Jezebel. With a light dusting of shadow on the brush (don't forget to tap off the excess!) I then blended Jezebel in a halo shape as high and as wide as I could around the lid of my eye. As the Stila shadows in this palette are quite delicate in colour pay-off I gradually built the colour, at each stage of blending, little by little.
• When I had achieved the opacity of my first layer of Jezebel, I then went in with the same shade but on the smaller and more defined Zoeva 231 Luxe Petit Crease brush, again in a halo shape but this time a little lower blended than the first layer of Jezebel.
• Now you should be able to see the definition of the halo eye beginning to take shape!
• Again build the opacity little by little and when satisfied I went in with a final dabble of Jezebel again on the Zoeva 230 Luxe Pencil brush. Again blend lower than the last layer of shadow and follow the line of the halo crease you have created. The rounded, halo crease should really be defined now, with plenty of open space left on the lid.
• Now to pull the eye shadow look together, I applied the cool gold shade Oasis to the Zoeva 232 Luxe Classic Shader brush and gently swiped this onto the lower centre of my lid, gradually swiping it a little higher with each stroke, until I was just about to meet the line of the halo crease I previously carved out.
• With another dabble of Oasis, I then carefully swiped a little more shadow onto the lid in a rounded shape, just under the outline of the halo to really emphasise the definition of the crease.
• Finally, gently pat Oasis onto the lid area to build up the golden opacity.
• With the shadows on the lid complete, top the eyes off with your usual eyebrows and/ or mascara. I always curl my lashes before applying mascara to give them a touch of lift and, what I like to imagine, curl. For mascara I used the Rimmel Super Curl Mascara and the matte brown shade Wood from the Makeup Revolution Beyond Flawless Mattes palette to fill in my eye brows
• Leave the bottom lash line clear as we will come back to this post-base application.

Base

• Adhering to my usual routine, I began by spraying my face with the MAC Fix + spray and wafting my face till dry with a fan (this helps to speed up the drying and bring out the tackiness!)
• I then applied a coin sized amount of my Nivea Men's Sensitive Post Shave Balm as my primer, blending it around my face and then patting it into my skin, once applied evenly, to achieve a tacky base for my foundation.
• As I ran out of foundation I went in with a mix of the L'óreal Infallible 24 hour Foundation in Porcelain and the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation in Light Porcelain so take your pick of your usual trusted foundation for this look. 
• I applied my foundation a section at a time (each cheek, nose, forehead and chin) with my damp beauty blender, applying my foundation to my beauty blender then blending onto my face to achieve maximum coverage.
• Once built to my desired coverage in light layers, I then concealed under my eyes using the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation (because I am now currently hating my Rimmel Lasting Finish Concealer under my eyes) and again blended this out with the pointed end of my beauty blender in the classic triangle shape.
• Quickly, I baked under my eyes using my Johnson's Baby Powder and powdered the rest of my face using the No7 powder puff and the Collection Pressed Powder in Ivory.
• Before moving onto my cheeks I gently wiped away my baking with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.

Cheeks

• Back to adding a sprinkling of colour and a little dimension, I first contoured with Benefit's Hoola using the flat topped blush box brush. Apply less pressure to the face as you blend inwards to create a more gradiated look and be gentle on application to avoid a heavy line.
• For a gentle pop of pink, so not to overpower the eyes, I then gently dabbed the blush Dandelion from Benefit on the apples and outer areas of my cheeks, using my Zoeva 127 brush. Dabbing on the blush, working outwards, helps to prevent the movement of the base that has been created.
• To top off the cheeks and all other high points of the face (brow bone, cupids bows and tip of the nose) I then applied a fair dusting of my Sleek highlighter from the Fair Face Form Palette.

Lower Lash Line

• To finalise the focus of this makeup look I went back to the lower lash line after applying my base and blended and smoked out the shade Jezebel, 3/4 of the way in, under my lash line. For this I used the Zoeva 227 brush and then added of sharper hint of Jezebel right under the lower lashes using the Zoeva 230 pencil brush.
• Finishing of the eyes, I then applied my Rimmel Super Curl Mascara to my bottom lashes.

Lips

• Before I was ready to step out into the sun I finished my sunset makeup look by applying the complimentary delicate pink shade Minimalist, from the Maybeline Color Drama lip pencil collection, to my lips.

And step by step there is my certainly unique sunset makeup look, colourful enough to embrace the sun yet simple enough to enjoyed anywhere and everywhere.
