5 Autumnal Lip Picks

Picture of the five lip picks I'm going to discuss in the post to add a touch of Autumn to your makeup look.Fives swatches of the Autumnal lip picks discussed, with the Kiko Velvet Passion, Rimmel Kate Moss, MAC and Huda Beauty lipsticks showing from left to right.

Happy Monday all! Or, should I say, the odd lovely person popping by and reading this post. As we've all felt the chill this past week I think it's suffice to say that Autumn is well and truly here! Although the cold weather may be a little glum for some the silver lining is it's time to crack out everything berry toned, smoky and chocolatey in the name of makeup! So in true spirit of a beauty lover and their deep rooted love for all things Autumnal, I thought it was about time I start injecting a little bit of Autumn into my everyday makeup and enjoying the season to its fullest. In today's post I've had a good ol' rummage through my makeup draws and collated a selection of five Autumnal lip picks I want to keep on rotation to inspire a little Autumn in my everyday and embrace that crispy leafed, pumpkin spiced latté season in all its glory.

Disclaimer: I'm very aware that some of the lip picks below are not vegan nor cruelty free. A few things I have in my makeup collection remain from before I went vegan - yes they are probably well past their expiration but if they're in good condition I can't bring myself to chuck them and waste so much lovely and expensive makeup I've collected over the years. Rather than scrapping them all I'd rather use them up and get my joy out of them as opposed to being wasteful, whilst it also gives me the chance to find cruelty free and vegan dupes for them while I use them up.

The Mauve-y Rose

Now some may say roses are for Summer and all it's sunshine but there's something about a rose-y toned lip colour that just has something dark and cosy to it and to me that sums up Autumn in a nutshell. I think the slightly darker tone of a mauve-y rose lip, like this Kiko Velvet Passion Lipstick in what I think is 315 Mauve (the shade name has rubbed off) that I've picked below, would pair lovely with a warm, dark eye look or add a touch of toasty to your daily makeup on it's own. Pretty in pink, there's just something mysterious about this mauve-y rose shade that just adds an air of sophistication to your casual pink, making a perfect little nod to the 'spookfull' month that is October.

The Dark Red

What would Autumn and Winter be without a red lip? Although the classic red may be seen as merry and bright, adding a darker hue to it, in my eyes, can just play beautifully into any slightly Autumnal look. My old favourite, Rimmel Kate Moss 01, is the red out of all my red lip collection I'd say that is the most fitting for Autumn. With it's slightly darker and deeper undertone it again adds an air of mystery to your makeup and just pulls that lovely dark look to your makeup look, without being too bold. But, bold enough to give you that little spring in your step as you bob through town in your bobble hat and boots. I think it's a great quick fix to add a touch of Autumn to your everyday makeup on it's own and ties in a nice touch of those Autumn leaf tones into your everyday ensemble too. Also, on a darker note, a little bit blood like too...

Is she a witch, is she a vampire? No, she just has 27 Pinterest boards dedicated to all things Autumn and can't help put incorporate the season into everything you possibly can.

The Petal Pink

Now something a little different and not traditionally Autumnal you may think, a pink lip! There's something about MAC Snob that I just think has a very genuinely petal-like look to it, again with a slighted muted pink tone, that I just feel nicely resembles those pretty flowers that still seem to survive well into the Autumn and add a pretty hint of colour to this otherwise burnt orange season. Likewise, with the warm, dark and deep tones I feel you traditionally find in an Autumnal makeup look, a muted but fresh dash of pink just adds a lovely wake-me-up to a look. I feel like I could see this paired perfectly with  darker or smokier eye looks and really add a nice pop to you your average Autumnal makeup look, again like those few flowers that seem not to fade in these cooler months.

The Velvet Teddy

Well it's your classic and what more can be said than MAC's Velvet Teddy for the perfect, fire crackling, crispy leaf crunchy, toasty Autumn nude. It supplies all things cinders and toasted marshmallow tones, with a deep, warm hint, and enough cosy to compliment even your wooliest of jumpers. Again, I just think your dark, warm toned, Velvet Teddy nude would pair perfectly with those darker smokier eye looks and also work perfectly at adding a touch of Autumn to your everyday makeup look on its own or with a slightly subtler eye look. Core blimey, I really have the urge to crack it out and put it on right now after writing that!

The Deep Dark Berry

And last but not least, we can't give nod to Autumn without a moment of recognition for the holy grail of all things Autumnal makeup... you're classic berry toned lip. When riffling through my collection this Autumn I just felt more drawn to that deeper darker berry, like the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in Famous as pictured below, as opposed to your brighter berry. I don't know whether it's with the style of the moment and these frilly, big fancy collared and ever so sweet outfits and two pieces everyone is wearing but I just feel like it adds a little flair of sophistication and ties in a little easier to your everyday outfit that a brighter and lighter, purple-y berry. Now I know it can be bold and mightn't be the choice for all but, and yes, I have worn this so merrily and happily and in actual fact it's probably made me look way too freakishly pale for my already extremely pale self but nevertheless, I do love a dark berry lip. So pale friends, ramp up the bronzer and/or blush and take from my mistakes and embrace that dark lip you oh so love and let's all be our best witch and go berry or go home!

    1. It is a classic isn't it! It's been so good having a rummage through my lippie collection as it's got me trying so many lipsticks I haven't worn in ages again. It's a really nice feeling, especially after a period of not wearing makeup as much. Oh Mocha sounds a dream! I do wish MAC would go vegan and cruelty free, I mean that would be expecting a miracle I know but I do miss MAC and my obsession with all their lipsticks and eye shadows!
